Pet License

Ordinance 6.04.020:

All dogs and cats kept, harbored or maintained by their owners in the city shall be licensed if over six months of age. Dog and cat licenses shall be issued by the city auditor. The owner shall pay a license fee as established from time to time by resolution of the city council. The owner shall state at the time of registration upon printed forms provided for such purpose, their name, address, telephone number, the breed, color and sex of the animal, and the date of its last rabies inoculation and rabies tag number. No license or renewal of license shall be acceptable unless a certificate signed by a qualified veterinarian or other individual licensed to administer vaccinations is filed with the application, showing that the animal described in the application has been inoculated but shall not apply to dogs or cats brought into the city for participation in shows. The license herein provided for shall be in force regardless of the date of its issuance until the first day of January each year. Licenses may be issued for only a portion of a year depending on expiration of the rabies certificate. If a license fee as established from time to time by resolution of the city council sets fees based on whether a dog or cat is spayed or neutered, the burden of establishing such spay or neuter shall be upon the owner and the owner shall furnish evidence to the city auditor in the form of a certificate of a veterinarian or personal affidavit at the time the application is applied for.
